چکیده

Motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death among young Americans. They also experience higher percentage of single vehicle, Run-off-the-road (ROR) crashes compared to other drivers. When looking at the methods of improving the alarming death rate of young drivers, it is important to identify the determinants of higher crash and injury severity. With that intention, the study described in this paper developed the models to identify the factors that are influential in making an injury severity difference to young drivers involved in ROR crashes. Since the outcome of the models, crash severity, is of discrete nature, logistic regression was identified as the most suitable approach and a set of sequential binary logistic regression models was developed to identify the influential factors. The intention was to predict the crash severity outcome of single vehicle ROR crashes involving young drivers. The developed models were validated and the accuracy was tested by using a set of crash data that were not utilized in the model development, where results were found to be satisfactory. Factors influential in making a crash severity difference to young drivers involved in ROR were then identified through the models. Factors such as influence of alcohol or drugs, ejection in the crash, point of impact, rural crash locations, existence of curve or grade, and speed of the vehicle were significantly important towards increasing the probability of having a more severe ROR crash. Restraint device usage and being a male clearly reduced the tendency of high severity and some other variables such as weather condition, residence location, and physical condition were not important at all.

Single-Vehicle Run-Off-Road Crash Prediction Model Associated with Pavement Characteristics

This study aims to evaluate the impact of pavement physical characteristics on the frequency of single-vehicle run-off-road (ROR) crashes in two-lane separated rural highways. In order to achieve this goal and to introduce the most accurate crash prediction model (CPM), authors have tried to develop generalized linear models, including the Poisson regression (PR), negative binomial regression (...

Background: Every year 1.2 millions of people are killed in road accident, and speeding is a major contributor road crashes among young driver. Accounting 40% of fatal crashes involved speeding. The purpose of this study was determining predictor of speeding intention among young driver 19-25 years old young driver in ghaemshahr based on Prototype Willingness Model. THESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF LICENTIATE OF ENGINEERING MACHINE AND VEHICLE SYSTEMS GRADUATE SCHOOL Modelling driver behaviour in run-off-road crashes: Applications in safety system development and safety benefit estimation

Run-off-road crashes have been identified as a major concern for automobile safety and several advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) targeting run-off-road crashes are on the market today. Assessment of ADASs require relevant test scenarios and valid computational models of driver behaviour. Therefore, the objectives of this thesis has been: (A) define run-off-road test scenarios, and (B) ...

Accuracy of self-report of on-road crashes and traffic offences in a cohort of young drivers: the DRIVE study.

In order to determine the accuracy of self-report of on-road crashes and traffic offences among participants in the DRIVE study, 2991 young drivers in New South Wales, Australia who completed the follow-up questionnaire were asked whether they had been involved in an on-road crash or were convicted for a traffic offence while driving during the year prior to the survey. This information was lin...
